There is no doubt that CBD is the health product that is getting the most attention right now. CBD has quickly become visible everywhere around us. Coffee shops sell CBD latte, spas release CBD facial treatments, and beauty companies release lotions containing CBD and hemp oil at a rapid pace.
And everyone, from your anxious colleagues to your dad suffering from arthritis, wants to get a CBD product.
However, despite being so pervasive in every corner of the world, many people are still a little worried about CBD. CBD you’re worried about is legal. Below, we asked experts about the “most wanted questions about CBD” about CBD.
So first of all. What is CBD?
According to the National Library of Medicine, CBD, an abbreviation for cannabidiol, is a compound of the cannabinoid sativa plant, also known as marijuana or help.
A natural substance used in products such as oils and edible foods that gives a feeling of relaxation and calm. Unlike its cousin, Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main active ingredient in marijuana, CBD is not a psychotropic drug.
Is CBD not a psychoactive “high”?
It never goes high. Cannabis plants are composed of two main components, CBD and THC. “CBD is a non-psychoactive part of the plant, which means it doesn’t have the effect of happiness,” says Dr. Genera Chin, an osteopathic doctor and medical cannabis expert in cannabis MD. “It does not become sedated or altered.”
There are two possible exceptions to this. First, for unknown reasons, some people respond differently to CBD. According to Dr. Chin, about 5% of people feel that they have deteriorated after taking CBD.
“Usually they are the same people who have the side effects of Advil and Tylenol,” she says. You never know how your body reacts to new supplements. The first time you take CBD, it’s safe to do so under supervision.
It’s also important to buy a third-party tested CBD for quality assurance (more on this later). The FDA does not regulate CBD, so you can also buy products that are stronger than advertised or contain smaller amounts of THC.
What are the health benefits of CBD?
The only CBD drug currently approved by the FDA is Epidiolex, which was approved last year for the treatment of certain types of epilepsy. However, many say that CBD has improved many health conditions, including back pain, osteoarthritis, and even cancer.
“In my practice, there are many patients asking about CBD,” says Dr. Hohmann Danesh, director of integrated pain management at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. There’s plenty of anecdotal evidence, but due to the serious lack of research, the real advantage of CBD is that it’s “difficult to assert because it’s in the research stage.”
“For now, the pharmacy is trying to figure it out in some way and just says,’Yes, this works,'” he says, “but it’s not a medical practice. It’s evidence. It should be based, and there is still no evidence to really support these claims. ”
Is CBD Worth Trying For “Pain”?
Dr. Danesh says there are two main types of pain: the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. “Both conditions may be beneficial,” he says.
The tricky part is that there is some evidence that CBD is most effective for pain when combined with a small amount of THC. “Depending on what kind of pain you have, CBD alone may be sufficient, but CBD and THC may be required.
This is a product that really helps because the regulations vary from state to state. Will be difficult to obtain. For example, in New York, where Dr. Danesh is practicing, CBD is available over-the-counter. But with the addition of THC, you will need a prescription.
It’s also difficult to get a complete picture of how much you consume. A dose that relieves pain in one patient may have little effect on the other. “Current research cannot elucidate them,” says Dr. Danesh.
“I think CBD is safe,” says Dr. Danesh.
Can CBD alleviate the “anxiety factors” that build up in everyday life?
CBD may be worth trying to reduce the symptoms of anxiety. “CBD tells you to calm down and reminds you that you’re safe,” says Dr. Chin. “It calms the nervous system, so especially those with anxiety will help to relax more.”
Still, one of the biggest misconceptions about CBD is that it’s a mysterious drug. “Many people think CBD is a panacea, but it’s not,” says Dr. Chin. “We also need a healthy lifestyle with plenty of exercise and good nutrition. CBD doesn’t solve everything.”
